
1. Who Can Enter
1.1 Entry to all categories is open to all entrants of all ages internationally except where stated in 1.5 and 1.6.
1.2 Employees of RovingEye are not eligible for entry.
1.3 Existing RovingEye contributors are permitted to enter, but may not enter any image or group of images that are already licensed under RovingEye.
1.4 RovingEye reserves the right to disqualify any entries considered to be indecent, inappropriate or in violation of any relevant national law or standard.
1.5 Entry to the Young Australian Photographer of the Year category is for persons 21 years and under at the date of the competition closing, who are not working professionally in the photographic industry and who are Australian citizens. Entrants 17 years and under must have a parent or guardian's approval to enter.
1.6 Nominees for the Australian Adventurer of the Year category is open to Australian citizens only.
1.7 Entrants will be requested to agree to the Terms of Use detailed on the RovingEye website by selecting "I agree" in the application process. Applications who don't tick this box will not be eligible for entry.
2. Eligibility of work
2.1 The entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of the images, text and video entry.
2.2 All content entered must not be currently exclusively represented by another agency.
2.3 It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not the organisers, to ensure that they comply with these ownership and copyright requirements, and own the rights to reproduction of their entry.
2.4 Entries that do not fulfil these criteria will be deemed ineligible and be disqualified. Where this is discovered after a prize has been awarded, the prize must be returned or refunded by the entrant.
2.5 RovingEye reserves the right to contact the entrant by telephone or other method in order to confirm information in the entry form or for any other purpose considered necessary.
3. Closing Date & Entry details
3.1 The closing date for all entries is extended to 29 August 2008.
3.2 Entry forms and payment may be completed online, using credit card or paypal, issued with a payment confirmation, or as a postal or email entry with payment by cheque, postal order or providing credit card details.
3.3 Entry to the photography and writing categories may be submitted online, by post or by email.
3.4 Entries to the Video/Multimedia category, are to be mailed. Your postal entry must enclose a CD or DVD with your entries, and a copy of the confirmation email of payment and entry.

3.5 Mailed entries will only be accepted if they arrive no later than 7 days after the closing date 29 August 2008.
3.6 Entrants are entirely responsible for all entry-related costs, such as duplication, enlargement, postage and costs related to any equipment including computer systems, transmission fees, etc.
3.7 In the event that the efficiency, security, selection procedure, fairness of the contest or any related operations are deemed to have been compromised by forces beyond the control of RovingEye - such as troubles relating to computer networks, computer virus infections, unauthorised computer access or loss of mail - then the receipt of some or all entries via the Internet or by post may be postponed or discontinued.
3.8 Submitted work and storage media, such as CDs, will not be returned.
4. Categories, Entry Levels, Entry Fees & technical requirements
4.1 PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY
(i) TRAVEL PHOTO ESSAY
Document an event, location or people related to travel as a photo essay comprising 6-10 images.
Three themed categories to enter. Enter one or enter them all. Multiple entries accepted. Nine finalists in total and one overall winner. Entry fees are $20 (AUD) per essay entered.
Themes are:
Australian Story (three finalists)
A Traveller's Tale (three finalists)
An Environmental Story (three finalists)
(ii) SINGLE SHOT TRAVEL
Enter a single image of either an event, location or people related to travel. Multiple entries are accepted. Three finalists and one overall winner. Entry fees are $20 (AUD) per image entered.
(iii) YOUNG AUSTRALIAN PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
Single image entries for those aged 21 years or under who are not working professionally as a photographer who are Australian citizens. Nine finalists in total and one overall winner. Entry to this category is free. Maximum of 10 entries per person.

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
- File Format: JPEG only. Please save as JPEG 10 when saving file.
- Colour Format: Adobe RGB 1998 must be applied as the standard colour space.
- File size: Images must be high resolution digital images equal to 6 megapixels or greater. If scanning film negatives or transparencies, please scan to a minimum 50MB TIF files and save as JPEG 10.
- Minimum size per JPEG image: 6 megapixels (multiply number of pixels across by the number of pixels down – this must be equal to or greater than 6 million pixels = 6 megapixels). If the image is smaller than the size mentioned above, the file may not be accepted.
- Enhancement: Images that have been digitally enhanced with software are accepted, however images that have been digitally altered must state so in the caption. Digitally altered images are taken to be ones where the original composition of the 'content' of the image has changed. Digitally enhanced images are taken to be ones where adjustments have been made to levels, saturation, sharpening and cropping. Both colour and black-and-white images are accepted.
- Image caption: All images must be suitably captioned in the metadata. This may be achieved using Adobe Photoshop or similar:
Go to “File Info� and complete the photo essay's Title, image Description and Keywords relating to the image. Within the origin section, complete Date, City, State and Country. All these fields must be entered to the best of your knowledge for the entry to be accepted.
4.2 TRAVEL VIDEO/MULTIMEDIA
A Traveller's Tale: Document a people, place or event in a video or multimedia presentation. This is an open category and an entry fee of $20 (AUD) applies.
Video and multimedia entries must be between 1-3 minutes in length and must be submitted on DVD as high quality files.
Multimedia may comprise of a number of still images and/or video with sound effects, music or voiceover.
4.3 TRAVEL WRITING
A travel feature of up to 1200 words. Travel stories may be published or unpublished, written within the period 1 January 2006 and close of competition. If published please list where and when they have been published. This is an open category and an entry fee of $20 (AUD) per story applies.
4.4 ROVINGEYE AUSTRALIAN ADVENTURER OF THE YEAR – BY NOMINATION
This category recognises the Australian adventurer who has gone above and beyond human expectations in their travels. Travel, or a part of the travel, must have taken place during 1 January 2006 and close of competition. Nominees must be Australian citizens, not necessarily residing in Australia.
Members of the public are invited to nominate an adventurer via the nomination form on the website. All who nominate will also go into a draw for a prize.

5. Judging
5.1 Judges who are professionals in the photographic, journalistic and travel industry have been appointed by RovingEye to select the winning photographs.
5.2 Neither RovingEye, the sponsors, nor the judges will discuss or respond to any inquiries or comments regarding the appointment of judges.
5.3 The decisions of the judges are final. No correspondence will be entered into.
6. The Finalists & Winners
6.1 An exhibition of the work of the prize winners and finalists will be held on the "Expose Your World" website.
6.2 All winners and finalists are required to enter into a non-exclusive Licence Agreement with RovingEye, for a period of two years, for the specific work entered in the competition. All entrants will retain copyright and will be notified should their work be selected. A copy of the standard Licence Agreement can be obtained from RovingEye on request or may be downloaded at http://www.exposeyourworld.com/pages/legal.cfm.
6.3 Finalists may be required to provide RovingEye with relevant tax information and to prepare relevant tax documentation and complete a Licence Agreement prior to receiving the prize.
6.4 Winners will be entirely responsible for any taxes or charges related to the receipt of any prize.
6.6 Details regarding the giving of prizes and exhibition on the RovingEye website will be sent directly to finalists.
6.7 The finalists will be announced on the RovingEye website at the end of November, 2008.
The finalists will be notified via email by the end of October, 2008.
6.8 Finalists may later be requested to submit high-resolution JPEG images for such purposes as the production of publications and exhibitions related to the contest.
6.9 A condition of the holiday prizes for the Overall Winner of the Photo Essay, Overall Winner of the Single Shot and Overall Winner of the Young Australian Photographer of the Year, is that all holiday experiences are required to be photographed for RovingEye, and will be made available at no charge for once-only future editorial publication within Australian Traveller magazine, Outer Edge Magazine and A&K Magazine. All photographs will be credited to the photographer. The photographer will receive a 50% royalty payment on any future sales.
6.10 The Tarraleah Lodge and Abercrombie & Kent will have access to 12-18 images taken by the winner during the stay as a part of the prize, for future editorial use within their in-house editorial publication. All marketing and advertising use by Tarraleah Lodge or Abercrombie & Kent will attract a reproduction fee and photographers will receive 50% royalty. All photographs will be credited to the photographer.
6.11 Copyright on these images are retained by the photographer, and sub-licenced to RovingEye for a minimum of two years, with a 50% royalty on all sales. For full details of the sub-licencing conditions, please request a copy of the Licence Agreement from RovingEye.
6.12 A selection of finalists' stories and photographs may be featured in Australian Traveller magazine, Outer Edge magazine and A&K magazine, once only, at no charge, as a part of the overall competition promotion. All content will be credited.
7. Rights of entrant
Entrants retain all copyrights and other equivalent rights to entered photographs, stories and video/multimedia content. Entrants, including the winners and finalists, may be required to sub-licence their entry(ies) to RovingEye (see clause 6.2).
8. Rights of the Organiser
8.1 RovingEye (known as the Organiser) reserves the permanent, non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, display, distribute, and show on screen any winning entries on websites, in exhibitions, tradeshows, or any other media which is under their management for the purpose of promoting the competition.
8.2 RovingEye will use best efforts to ensure that authors of all works used for the purpose in 8.1, is accredited accordingly.
8.3 The organiser, its subsidiaries and affiliates will announce names of winners and titles of winning works on the RovingEye website.
8.4 In the event that an entry is found to contravene the entry requirements stated by the organiser, that entry will be disqualified. Entrants will, however, not be notified of such a judgment. The organiser reserves the right to revoke winner status and revoke any awarded prize in the event that an entrant is found to be unsuitable after the prize is awarded.
8.5 All terms and conditions regarding entry to the contest are applied according to Australian legal requirements. In the event that entries are made from outside Australia, such entries will be handled subject to Australian law.
8.6 It is not RovingEye's responsibility to ensure that the contest entry requirements and use of personal information do not contravene the laws and regulations of the country from which the entry is being submitted. For the aforementioned reason, all responsibilities relating to the submission of entries to the contest will be borne by the entrant who understands they have submitted such entries under their own responsibility and at their own risk. In the event that any misfortune or damage should be experienced on the side of the entrant, the organiser will not be responsible.
8.7 Should any conflict arise between an entrant and the organiser, the case will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the New South Wales Court and will be handled and settled accordingly.
9. Personal Information
9.1 On entering the contest, entrants are required to fill out the entry form correctly, including the spaces for personal information, and submit it to the organiser.
9.2 Personal information may be given at the entrant's discretion, however failure to provide necessary information may prevent the entry from being accepted by the organiser.
9.3 All personal information acquired by the organiser relating to the contest will be handled in the following way.
(i) Notification to winners
(ii) Notification of other elements relevant to the contest
(iii) Inquiries to entrants regarding entries
(iv) Names of the winners will also be published on websites related to the contest, printed materials and other media where winning photographs are displayed.
(v) Disclosure to third parties. Where absolutely necessary, the organiser will provide personal information relating to entrants to the third parties involved in the operation of the contest and the contest judges to the extent necessary for operation of the contest.
9.4 Management of personal information.
All responsibilities relating to the prevention of leaks, abuse, and falsification regarding personal information will be borne by the organiser.
